Creating an invoice is one thing, but correctly registering the payment in Moneybird is equally important. MoneybirdSync ensures automatic payment registration so your Moneybird ledger is always balanced.
Payment methods in Shopify
Shopify supports dozens of payment methods. The most popular for webshops are:
- iDeal: The most used payment method in the Netherlands
- Credit card: Visa, Mastercard, American Express
- PayPal: Popular for international orders
- Klarna: Buy now pay later, in installments or immediately
- Bancontact: Widely used in Belgium
- Bank transfer: For business customers
How does MoneybirdSync register the payment?
As soon as a Shopify order is marked as paid, MoneybirdSync automatically registers the payment on the Moneybird invoice:
- Shopify processes the payment and marks the order as "Paid"
- MoneybirdSync receives this signal and looks up the corresponding Moneybird invoice
- The payment is registered with the correct amount, date and payment method
- The invoice is marked as paid in Moneybird
Setting up payment accounts
In MoneybirdSync you set which Moneybird payment account payments are booked to. You can also set a different account per payment method:
- Book iDeal payments to the bank account
- Book PayPal payments to the PayPal account
- Book Klarna payments to the Klarna settlement account
This makes reconciling your bank accounts in Moneybird much easier.
Orders on account
For B2B orders where the customer pays on account, MoneybirdSync works differently. The invoice is created but payment is only registered when Shopify confirms the payment. This can be later, when the customer has paid the invoice via bank transfer.
Multiple payments on one order
Some webshops offer partial payment or use gift cards. MoneybirdSync also correctly processes these situations, with multiple payment registrations on the same invoice if needed.
